Went back to the O.P. which states " Take onesubject and see how many different ways you can depict it. "...... I took that to hinge on the word "subject",rather than object, variations on a chair for instance. That was my reason for choosing fashion. I'm still a bit confused by interpretation now though?
An object can be a subject can it not?
Nice work Sylvia, but why on earth are you apologising that you've show work before? This was exactly my point above. You don't avoid items in an art gallery because you've seen them previously, indeed, just the opposite with some. The membership here is ever changing and to spend time and effort painting something to be treated as read once like a page in a book is rather fruitless and moreso, disheartening. Forever press on with new things, but don't ignore past ones
Good to see everybody's take and pictures on this. Good point, Jim. But I don't think anyone's arguing with you on this thread. I've enjoyed seeing some of the older pics...some members have been here since before the flood. So a lot of it is new to me anyway...but you're dead right...paintings aren't to be shown once...anything relevant to this challenge is something I'd like to see. We know most people will produce something new anyway.
Possibly Sylvia, like me, feels a bit guilty for not producing much new work - far too much else to do in both our cases, and a limited amount of physical energy in mine - and so not wanting to show older work is a sort of rebuke to ourselves for not doing anything new. I could have submitted any number of old paintings for last month's challenge on skies, but didn't - for this reason. I'd have trouble meeting the requirements this time around, though - if I try once and fail, I'll try one more time then generally give up: I am not one for the multiple versions of the same thing ... or of finding different ways to paint it. (W C Fields: 'If at first you don't succeed, try again, then give up. No sense being a damn' fool about it.' Wise words - but then, this is the man who stuffed his attic with cases of whisky, just in case prohibition came back; so you'd expect sturdy common sense.)
Fish 1- Fish 2- Fisherman-
Thank you, Ellen and Linda. It's still a mystery how the interpretation goes, but heck, lets have fun while the sun shines :) I didn't realise the fish had such a worried expression until I posted them. There's a fabulous amount of work in this months challenge, well done everyone.

Tessa, absolutely love the last one, and Lesley that sketch is gorgeous. I hope you pair have entered your work for the competition- the friends of Bedgebury Pinetum and others. Worth a punt with what you have posted here.

I'm getting a painting done for the Pinetum comp, there's an old Ash in the front field, not much of it left now as a few years ago it was struck by lightning, but it does support life, ivy, insects and some wonderful bracket fungi, so, it will be titled - 'life after death' This is my photograph I'll be having a go at.
I initially saw this challenge as being the same subject (eg a landscape or still life) depicted in as many different styles as possible. However a challenge which is open to interpretation has certainly produced some great stuff so far!
Well, I'm taking the POL response to mean we can interpret how we will...as has been said, a great response so far with slight 'interpretations' on what the challenge is about. So I'll carry on with my interpretation. I've enjoyed all the work presented so far, be it old or new. My 'interpretation' or 'theme', was different pics on the theme of 'love.' Here's an attempt at CUBIST style, not very cubist I must admit. When I drew my 'cubist' dog it looked remarkably unlovable...so I decided to draw the girl's face more normally. So, if not CUBIST, maybe LEWBIST. From my A4 sketchbook. Lew.
Painted this way back in 2012, it was a feature in the Leisure Painter, the reader was invited to paint penguins. going going. . . last of the 'fish' theme.
