I like the idea of having the price added, and also, Heather's suggestion of the use of circles, the gallery, maybe, would be viewed as a virtual art exhibition. When a painting is sold could be removed from the gallery.
Has anyone here sold a piece of work from this site yet? I would be interested on hearing their opinions about the process. I may have a go at selling something in the future, but wonder if I'd simply be trying to "sell coals to Newcastle". Is this a place buyers visit?
I have bought something and the artist was quick to respond, we agreed a price and it's currently on delivery.   A few emails did it.
Out of interest Heather, does the item now show Sold or does it get removed?
It's still on the site but the 'for sale' sign has gone.

Thanks Heather. I shall have to get myself organised and give it a go.
I've noticed the 'For Sale' tags but hadn't grasped that it entails a fee. I doubt if many, if any, sales will be generated through our gallery which has been primarily a discussion/comment facility for contributors. I won't be using the For Sale facility for that reason and will continue to sell through exhibitions and gallery but will also continue to comment/discuss images not marked For Sale.
Like you a lot of contributors to the forum I’m not keen on the for sale labels on the site, however it’s up to the artists if they want to use the site to sell. I do like to comment on the painting and feel that if you like one the comments, I ha e noticed that I tend not to comment on the ones foe sale, not sure why it something I’ve just stared doing. I may have been unintentional but l will continue to comment on the ones not labels. Well done Peter for your stand.
Not really a case of making a stand rather the feeling that someone who marks their work 'For Sale' isn't really looking for comment.

I wouldn't agree with that. I have marked one or two for sale (I don't usually as I don't seem to be able to part with my paintings... Lol) but that's simply to make a note that I would sell if asked. I'd still appreciate comments on those works too. Of course it's different if someone posts them purely to advertise them for sale.
I have marked a handful of older postings for sale just to see what happens, and if there is any interest! I wasn’t going to and haven’t marked any recent paintings. The older ones have been commented on some time ago, and the newer ones being oils, need some months to be fully dry. I don’t look on the site as a selling platform so this is largely an experiment and I would rather have comments and interest on my new work as that’s what I enjoy about POL. It wouldn’t bother me if the For Sale facility were withdrawn. I’m sitting on the fence here, in case you hadn’t noticed!
I think it's just a new feature that could benefit both members and POL. I'm not bothered one way or the other, if I'm honest, but it did feel different. Is that a bad thing? I don't know. The lack of price, however, would definitely prevent me from opening negotiations, of that I'm certain. Hold your hands up if you like change. *smile* Bri
