Just had my first peek at The Artist (November issue) and pleased to see a semi-abstract (almost abstract) featured on page 9 - It's by Jason Bowyer and what a superb piece it is. Mind you he does spoil it by going on to say ' I try to interpret my perceptions into feeling, to grasp from within the pure delight in creative construction and the joy of essential materials'. Okay so it's not as bad as some of the pretentious drivel we have discussed here on the Forum and I think I know what he's getting at but why not put it in plain English. Would you believe there's yet more abstracts/semi-abstracts featured as I turn the pages : Elaine Lokhandvala (superb piece), Julian Halsby, and Terry Frost. There might even be more - I've only flicked through so far. Anyway the reason I mention this is that it makes me wonder if it heralds a possible change and that we just might see an abstract chosen for the 'Selection' in the gallery.
I was also very pleased to see a few featured abstracts in the latest edition. I also agree about the short narrative from Jason Bowyer, all a bit too over the top, he possibly feels that this is expected to justify this type of work, but I prefer plain English myself. But, I must say that some month's ago I was Editor's Choice in The Artist with a semi-abstract, and have had a 'nude' on the top gallery, so let's hope we see and abstract shortly, I feel confident that we will.
I see that Satu has made it in the selections with one of the best abstracts/semi-abstracts on the site for some time so things are looking up. .
