I have been asked several times how I make the little sculptures which I keep popping on the gallery so here it is in a nut shell. They are made from wood salvaged from building sites - the more damaged and broken the better. They are sometimes painted with spray paint in several different colours (black silver green brown etc) and then usually rubbed down - sometimes acrylic paint - sometimes both - more rubbing down if i think it needs it. But in all cases I am only seeking to stress the distressed look - I don't want to spoil the rough wood effect. The acrylic is usually rubbed in with a cloth rather than with a brush but each one is done differently. The lamppost in my latest posting is made from an old paintbrush handle with a wooden plug (the type you often get in self assembly furniture if that helps) with a washer superglued on top. I have made flower tubs from small scent bottle tops with some wire wool for foliage all glued in place and spray painted. Always looking for new ideas!! And it's all good fun. The best bit is that I have a small workshop next to my studio and I can pop in there to cut up wood etc for just a few minutes whenever the mood takes me - it doesn't take the concentration that is needed when painting for example. many of my ideas copy my Leicestershire watercolours - you can see the influence if you look at the windows for example. Hope this helps to explain the process. If you want to look at my latest in the gallery here it is : http://www.painters-online.co.uk/Gallery/Michael-Edwards-Coastal-And-Rural-17/_ga99370_pg1
