I've dabbled in oils for almost 40 years. I went from very bad to just plain bad, gave up, returned to very bad, managed a poor average and gave up again. I'm on my fourth or fifth incarnation, but there is something very different this time. I've always enjoyed the pleasure of playing with oils on the canvas, but this time I'm really loving the process. I'm still pretty poor in execution, but I feel I've made great headway in the last few months. I've read extensively - largely thanks to Penzance Library's superb art collection - and learned so much. I've joined this community and lurked and learned. So thank you. I've started being braver with brush-work, and my use of colour. I've seen the improvements, but more importantly for this hobby painter, I've felt the improvements. I've become more ambitious in my approach and I've adored using Jackson's handmade linen boards. I've assembled, bit by bit, a pallete of artist's quality colours - Michael Harding, Jackson's, Winsor and Newton, Vasari and Williamsburg, happily supplemented by Daley Rowney Georgian. To quote one dreadful place: 'I'm lovin' it'.
Well done you Diesel74. You now have a life time ahead of fun , frustration, despair and elation... welcome to our world .
Keep going, you'll get there in the end...if only we knew where 'there' is!
Ah, now if I was going "there" I wouldn't start from "here"
So glad you are enjoying it so much Diesel74, hope you have many happy creative years ahead of you. How do I find your paintings on the Gallery?

Today I bought my first set of oil colours since I was ten years old. Always used watercolours. I haven't plucked up courage to try them yet. I did this with acrylics and was quite pleased with the results but I'm not quite ready to paint anything yet. Some trial dabbling required....but it's a start..😆
