Digging further into my dad's old painting gear, I've found a tube of Rowney Georgian cadmium red (hue). I had a try with it. it was transparent, taking several coats to cover, and started to take on a brownish colour, this was bought in the late 60s early 70s certainly no later than 1971. Could this changing colour and lack of covering power be to do with the age, the fact that it's student colour, or both. I thought I had cracked the problem, I found a tube of W&N artists colour, scarlet lake, about the same age; however, although it holds its colour this colour is transparent anyway.bestMick
