Good tip - excuse double meaning, it wasn't intentional! - from Alan. Other 'good tips' on round brushes can also be found on the highest quality hog bristle - but they will wear down eventually - and on the Rosemary & Co synthetic Shiraz range: I have a large round from there which has withstood a great deal of quite punishing work in acrylic; I haven't used it for oil because I keep separate sets of brushes for oil, acrylic, and watercolour, but I've little doubt it would stand up to oils just as well. I might be inclined to keep it out of turps-type solvents, though. The Shiraz range is made of strong synthetic fibres - it's not the most delicate range, or the softest, but it's a workhorse type of brush, plenty of snap and spring, and might be just what you're after.
But I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with Alan's suggestion.
