I thought it would be worth adding here, arising from a discussion on another thread, that copies of F C Johnston's The Complete Oil Painter are still available, though published 22 years ago, from Alibris Books UK. Johnston was once editor of Leisure Painter magazine, and the book is - though inevitably a bit out of date in some respects - still a mine of information.
