Should you be one of those who inhabits YouTube, there's a young painter I've encountered there named George Frederick Thomas; well worth seeing even just to enjoy his paintings, but he's generous with advice, too - reminded me of a few things I'd forgotten. Very much a painter of the English landscape, at least at this stage in his career. I know some of you wouldn't touch YouTube with a long pole, but like all of these platforms - Facebook, TikTok, Instagram ( won't say X, formerly Twitter) - good things can be found there, as well as fairly horrific things if you don't focus your search ... so focus, and search for him.

I’ve just watched him painting Tower Bridge, along with other members of the iconic Wapping Group of Artists.
Very methodical in the way he builds up his composition, which incidentally isn’t an easy scene to paint… he also tells you what colours he’s using as he goes along, quite useful information.
Very impressive indeed, he comes over confidently in his narrative, and also gives added interest with some interesting historical context about the bridge itself!
A very accomplished piece of plein air painting was the end result!

Thanks, Robert & Alan. I glanced at his Cherry Blossoms piece. He doesn't waffle like other youtubers. I added him to my artists list on there. But I must get around to watching them! I have to say, they often get me back in the mood for painting.
(Although today I'm painting wooden garden containers...with mahogany wood stain...not very artistic)

Well, apply that brush with a flourish, Norrette.... actually don't, you'll probably get streaks.........
Yes, young Mr Thomas is a natural teacher; he gives you sound information as he paints: I'm not sure I'd be able to do that ... not on a video, anyway; when you're wrapped up in something, it's not easy to give a running commentary; as rather a lot of video demonstrators prove - though some can do it well. I've mentioned Andrew Barrowman before - very different approach, but again, he packs the information in there. While I often think I should perhaps watch videos and read books less, and paint more, I think it's about balance - they DO encourage me to paint, if they're good at what they do, and they give me ideas. You'd get the same sort of thing from a group of painters - as Alan mentions, George is a member of the Wapping Group - but we don't all have the luxury of being able to interact with and learn from painters of equal or greater ability, and it's there that YouTube and some other channels are really useful.
Well, computer technology and the internet have to be good for something; not AI, though - we're steering through dangerous waters when it gets more and more difficult to distinguish digital manipulation from truth (see all those Bigfoot videos - if there's anything out there, sensationalist and made up images aren't going to help uncover it, but will rather get in the way of anyone taking it seriously: he said - changing the subject).
