I've just started out with Oils to try out this medium. After working with watercolour I'm finding the experience very pleasurable. Standing up at an upright easle, the minimum of sketching and using long handled Hog hair brushes in a loose style, so differrent to what I'm used to. However, after reading a couple of magazines and getting started books on the subject I'm a little confused over conflicting advice between the publications. One publication tells me it is OK to use White Spirit for both cleaning brushes and thinning my paint, whereas another publication states that I should use Linseed Oil or Turpentine for thinning and White Spirit only for cleaning my brushes as it damages the structure of the paint. Which is right? Your experiences and advice would be appreciated. Regards Roger
