A couple of weeks ago our tutor at a local authority art class announced 'on Friday 27th we'll start with oil painting'. It was met with fear and rebellion, some sticking to acrylic - the watercolourists very, very apprehensive. One or two had used oils before.
Fast forward to friday:
'ooh this is nice'
'don't have to tear it up if I make a mistake'
'love the feeeeel of the paint'
'can we do this again'
'it's gorgeous'
and from me - 'at last some proper tones' in my picture.
Try everything at least once :-)

Yes, there’s a myth surrounding the use of oils - years ago I was fearful. In fact if you simplify and take everything new step by step all will work out - though you can’t guarantee your result will be a masterpiece😆. Sadly, there are some who are never prepared to try anything new, a great pity.

Tell your watercolourists - though they seem to have learned anyway - that if they can paint in the demanding medium of watercolour, they should certainly be able to paint in oil. Just reverse your normal processes - watercolourists tend to start with lights and add darks, oil painters tend to reverse the process: but there are no rigid rules about process, just a few things you need to be aware of.
