Interesting… I look at it as two separate entities.
Probably my favourite discipline is sketching, using pen and wash as opposed to simple pencil sketches… but anything goes.
I’ve just completed a whole month of my sketch-a-day routine, I’ve posted many of them on my gallery and had a great response, based predominantly around the Thames dockland… most were from my imagination.
It’s only a matter of putting aside half an hour of your time, we can all do that I’m sure!
I’ve taken a bit of a break over the holiday but intend to resume shortly, maybe today in fact!
I actually do use some of these as inspiration for paintings - I’m going to start an oil shortly working from one of my dockland scenes - a very loose and atmospheric scene with those gorgeous old and grimy dockside buildings with some loosely defined boats and masts etc… hopefully devoid of detail, can’t wait to start!
If there was interest before, why not start the ball rolling again with a new sketch-a-day thread?
This is the dockland scene I’m thinking about using for my oil painting… I like the composition but the issue is keeping away from unnecessary detail, which I often battle with…
