I attended a day workshop on using Artbars at the Derwent pencil Museum and I find them very fun to use. You can blend them with water, but we were advised to layer them very thickly then warm them (we breathed warm air over them) and bend by rubbing with a finger or paper stump. This got very messy but gave some lovely results. There are some Youtube videos on projects using Artbars. Hope this is a help.
