I tend to go for it, don’t always prepare, as you can see from the support, which had a landscape on it. I may keep some of the traces….title from my husband ( yes, it is he ),..”Man rising from the Swamp”.

Excellent from the start , you do make portraits look so easy but I know they are not . Looking forwards to the finished painting, I suppose you will be calling him the beast from the deep or something similar from now on .

I’ve called him many things Paul….. When portraits work, or when anything works, I think it’s because you’re in the mood, you can’t wait to get started. Although I want to continue, the light isn’t good now ( I have a daylight lamp but it’s not the same ) so I’ll watch Landscape Artist of the Year instead.

Thanks everyone. Yes, he’s quite happy to sit, perhaps for an hour. Then I’ll take photos. I’m trying to do “ sight size” - not with this one though. This one wasn’t really planned ( hence the old board ) but I was just in the mood to try a different angle - the photo was taken a couple of days ago.

A walk to the beach on Tuesday when there was snow - beautiful! Started this yesterday, need to leave it a while now while I think. Painted over a used canvas. Thoughts welcome - eg. are the foreground grasses a bit much?
