LThis has just popped up,as a memory from 12 years ago.  Just a few of my sketch books I had finished then...it has increased by a whole lot since then.  These are all done in situ on various holidays from Scotland to the Caribbean and east Africa  . A5 Moleskine  watercolour books.   So many memories they mean so much more than a photograph

Great memories for you Sylvia!
Some lovely work on show Sylvia, and a great variety of subject matter.  They look wonderful together.  I wish I had sketchbooks from that far back, it's only in recent years that I've used them.  Prior to that I sketched on odd sheets, usually torn off from pads.  Over time and many clearouts much of that work has gone.  Now I use ring-bound or hard-cover books, so that the books are retained as an entity in themselves...wish I'd started much sooner.  I only have about 25 sketchbooks, not much for somebody who has been drawing for as long as I have.
Thanks for sharing your sketchbooks Sylvia, it must be great having these to look back on, and you are right they are much better than photographs. I have a digital photo archive going back to 2002 and a hoard of actual photograph albums dating back to the 70s, but I rarely look at any of them, whereas I frequently revisit the few (by comparison to you) sketchbooks I have , maybe looking for inspiration, or just remembering where I was when I did the sketch.
JMW Turner bequeathed just under 300 sketch books to the Tate on his death, that goes to show how prolific an artist he was. Great stuff Sylvia, I also prefer to record my work in sketch books, I’m always referring to them for inspiration!
