I finally took the plunge and painted outside.  I am on an adventure to the Isle of Lewis and Harris this week and decided to spend four day out in the open air painting (weather permitting).  I have to say that all that fresh air is certainly going to make for a good nights sleep 😊 here are a couple of snaps from my trip to Blackhouse Village and my set up. I have been experiencing painters block for the last month or so, so it was nice to finally be painting again.
Love the black houses  but not exactly urban..
Very true Bari, but I am hoping to work up to that I think.  I love your painting, what medium is that?
Thanks Carrie,  watercolour having tried all mediums I now only work in watercolour,  inktens watercolour and pen & ink. I did this set of black houses on wood blocks.
Adebanji Alade is the king of urban sketchers - he draws people on buses and trains, as well.  I wasn't much taken with his attempt to copy the Mona Lisa on a C4 programme the other day: I don't think that's what he does best, and I did wonder why he tried.  But for urban sketchers he has few contemporary equals.
Agree totally, his book ‘The Addictive Sketcher’ is a must! He is so enthusiastic about sketching, and it comes through in the book. Well I did enjoy the programme format, a variety of interesting stages such as making your own oil paints, support preparation and so on, brief as it was! I just think that he needed to challenge himself and learn about new techniques such as glazing etc (new to him that is of course).
I’ll need to have a look at that book :)
It’s a great book .
