Well said both.
I try and comment when I  like something but also to encourage as I think we could all do a bit of that.  I do say my thanks when people post to say they like my work but I tend to wait a bit so I can say my thanks to as many as respond but not after each comment.  It is sad and a little disappointing though to observe so many artists who regularly post their work and receive comments but don't seem to ever or rarely take the time to post on other people's work. I take the point that physically this may be difficult for some and hats off to them that they can still paint which is wonderful. I guess we're all different but I value this community a great deal and in my book communication works both ways. We have some stand out artists on this site and I often think that they deserve a lot more congrats than sometimes they receive
for a touch of humour
Just love that mug Heather.  Is the wrong ‘ear’ broken? I respond to comments pretty much the same as Heather.  Comments are always valued and appreciated.  Before I joined POL I was briefly with another website art ‘community’.  People posted their pictures, but there was little or no reaction, the same with the sites forum.  I left.  What was the point?  It seemed the equivalent of sticking your art under your bed.  You can’t like everything, but it seems simple courtesy to comment on the art you do like.  Interaction is everything.  We’re lucky that most people make the effort on POL.
That mug is fabulous Heather! Do you mind if I share the picture with friends from art group?

not at all, I got it from a friend's facebook post
Mirror, mirror on the wall who is the greatest commenter of them all, its Heather Love, and I thank Heather for that so very encouraging. But how does Heather manage to do it?  I have to say if someone can paint or draw then upload then surely they can give a comment. I did actually get a comment today from a lady in Spain. We do have some excellent painters and drawing artist on POL which is very encouraging it gives an aim to improve my own art work.
Thanks John - am a speed typist from my p.a. days and trained in speed reading too ... old habits die hard! Plus I like spreading good karma, too much nasty stuff around these days.

I find this post incredibly insulting and downright insensitive.  This is my last post on this site because of this.  I suggest John that you hypothetically, hammer five nails , one into each finger and then try to do anything at all let alone type or that you get your Doctor to tell you that you may not be able to live without a carer by the time you're 65.  Welcome to my world Goodbye everybody and good luck except John John Graham Inkson on 09/01/2026 18:42:56
Susan, I’m speaking for John ( although I’m sure he can do it himself) to say to you that I’m very sure he wasn’t being insensitive. A lot of people on the site have physical problems, we mention them from time to time. I feel sorry that you’re upset but John is a very supportive member on the site, I think you’ve taken his words the wrong way. Have another think and please continue posting.
As one of the people who have a lot of physical problems with my hands , I’m not offended by what John posted , it was just a comment not aimed at anyone in particular .  Susan I’m sorry that you feel that you need to leave POL , as Marjorie has said there are a lot of people who have quite severe disabilities who post on the forum and the gallery, it’s one of the most supportive site to be a member of.  It’s not easy doing things with hand problems , having had five operations on my hands in two years I can testify to that , but it’s a little unfair to assume that John was being insensitive and having a dig . It takes time to become used to having a disability and knowing that your future is not going to be as we would wish , it’s taken me nearly thirty years to accept that I can do that things I want too but that doesn’t mean I can be cross at other people who don’t really know me or my circumstances. If what I’m saying offends you then I’m sorry to hear that as it genuinely not meant to. Do reconsider and continue to join in both the forum and the community.
Oh dear sorry I was not trying to have a dig. I was just looking at the logic of the situation. For information part of my life work was supporting and enabling disabled adults to do art. As a craft instructor my job was to adapt the medium so they could contribute themselves. I am sorry if someone feels I have offended them but that was never intended. I should have thought twice before putting that comment in.
