I draw and paint a great deal, so consequently go through a lot of raw materials. Never having used oils I decided to jump off the deep end and have a go. This morning I went in "The Works" and bought a box of 12 oil colours, two x A5 sketch pads of 72 sheets of 130 gsm (I use them regularly and they're perfectly fine for light watercolour work,) and an A4 Acrylics pad (22 sheets of 220 gsm tinted paper). Oh, and I splashed out on a plastic bag to carry them in. Toatal cost: £8-05p. Expensive stuff this art...:hehe: ps. I'm not expecting th oils to be up to Rembrandt standard, but I have to start somewhere and these will do for that.
I visited the thread hoping to commiserate with you but I am afraid I cannot. I bought a single water colour half pan and it cost me about what you spent... I have in fact spent a small fortune this year on all kind of things including lots of large canvas boards and lots of acrylic paints and expensive brushes, coloured pencils, watercolours, pens, pencils, pencil cases, paper etc etc Since I have been drawing more rather than painting I find the cost much reduced. It would be nice if somebody wanted to buy something I have painted, it would at least be a little money coming back i the correct direction... sigh...
I spent three times your total on a single tube of Cadmium Yellow oil paint last week...painting is as expensive, or as cheap as you make it, and higher spend doesn't guarantee better results!
Good for you Jim. If you are happy with your painting equipment then great, don't let anyone tell you different!
I never go over the top with materials, the most I've paid out for is pastel paper, other than that I have also bought from " The Works " I also buy on line from Art Discount, which I find really good for Bockingford watercolour paper, 20 sheets size 15 x 11 for about £9.00. plus p&p although I try and wait for free p&p offers. Hey Linda, welcome, It's nice to see you here!
Hi Margaret, thanks for the welcome, Linda.
Yes, welcome Linda. I have admired some of your delicate work in the gallery...I loved your mice.
