What a tremendous number of new artists now posting, some very good.
Must admit I have refined my viewing and tend to ignore more pieces which are of the pretty/picturesque style except of those by colleagues in here I have supported and return the compliment.
Animals do not get my view unless racehorses or indeed horses, pets - no, tortoises - no, florals no etc and certainly no cats.
Life studies - yes, vehicles - yes and industrial scenes, plus machinery.
Abstracts - quite often yes, but they have to catch my eye.
Getting old and picky, that's all.

The gallery hosts a wide selection of art, some good some not so, and by all abilities from novice to professional. I think that is its' main strength. Personally I like expressionist and post impressionist paintings, if there are such categories, but often find myself looking at something completely different...and enjoying the experience.

The artist of the 'Princesses' by his own admission used the corporate logo of Heineken and their beer mats to encompass his design without their permission, a rather unwise thing to do as was pointed out by Michael but received no response, he also added a copyright logo to this work, pushing your luck or what?
However, for those of you that liked them, and I thought that they were of limited interest, overly complicated and rather repetitive, I did spot a new design from him the other day, many more to follow I don't doubt.

Princesses apart I still enjoy looking at the gallery and tend to only comment on something that really catches my eye. however even this isn't as easy as it seems. Those that catch my eye are often by the same artists and to keep saying the same things becomes - well to put it bluntly - a bit tedious. Interestingly there a re a few artists who get a lot of comments but whose work, for me at least, does nothing at all. I tend, as a result, to give the gallery less and less attention these days and post only rarely when I've tried something a bit different.

I do know what you mean Michael and I'm sure that you are not alone, however, I still tend to trawl through it all and comment on those that are of interest to me. Some work I do find really good and worthwhile such as figure drawings from life, yes from life and not from a photo which is so refreshing these days often hardly receive a comment, not everyone's thing of course.
Many artists these days seem to be posting four at a time and on a daily basis, which they are entitled to do of course, but all very similar and that does tend to wear me down a touch, speaking personally, I only ever comment on one work per person, hell fire, I wouldn't get time to paint!...

It's seriously difficult to keep commenting - and this is all the more true when there's so much high quality work now; so I try to concentrate on new people, but then there are so many of them, too.
It can be dispiriting when you receive no comments at all, I imagine, but that doesn't of course mean that people don't look. I suspect many of us are feeling we ought to be spending less time tapping on a keyboard and gazing at a screen; certainly I am, and that limits the time I'll spend looking at the Gallery (incidentally, a propos another thread, it's also why I like to divide the gallery up into categories sometimes, if I just want to look at the latest in one particular medium rather than looking at the lot).
I think we've got to keep trying to comment though, because it does mean a lot to people - not to everybody, but to many.
Drawings still tend to get fewer comments than paintings - yes, I had noticed that. Why, I can't begin to imagine: we all know that drawing is the basis of all that we do, surely .... but there we are, presumably it's the impact of colour that drives people to comment; and I'm not going to say anything about the princesses; I've promised myself I won't...
