'Where did my...' Van Gogh Of course if we pronounce it with the established Anglicised pronunciation: van Gokh(-v as in vet, -g as in get, -kh as in Scottish loch) there are even more possibilites - well a few - well okay, one or two .

Far be it from me to be pedantic - stop that laughing: I said stop it, you're getting hysterical now! - far be it, as I was saying, from me to be pedantic but of course you all know than Van Gogh's name, in your actual Dutch/Flemish, isn't pronounced Van Go at all? That's just what our American cousins have done with the pronunciation - and look what they've done to "vase", "tomato", and "aluminium". Mind you, what you'd have to do to find a rhyme or pun with the actual pronunciation - something like Fun HoCH, I believe (where's Mia Ketels when you need her?) - I dunno. Still, given the weather outside, pouring cold water seemed apt.

I do get a bit uptight over sloppy speech but not over pronunciation which changes according to country, area, city, town, village, and in one family down my lane, even among family members. But in this case there can only be one correct pronunciation: the way the owner pronounced it but as he's dead I guess we'll never know . He is dead isn't he - the clue's in his name (depending on how you pronounce it) !!
