I have yet to try a landscape either, I have bought those little water pots that can be clipped onto your pad and may give it a go at some water colours later this year. An artist friend is coming to visit me in June and she said that we will go out sketching (all new experiences) but I have enough to do without all that, being in my artistic infancy still I am trying to learn how to see properly... as well as trying to learn to draw accurately I am intending to do a large number of times quick sketches between now and then also. There are so many facets to art it seems hard to divide ones self and go in multiple directions but I am sure I will try landscape one day. I have seen your landscapes in the gallery Alan and you are clearly accomplished in this field (see what I did there) I am sure I could learn quite a lot standing behind someone like you watching you work.

Well there is life out there!, great to hear from you all, thanks.
Sandra, I did submit a semi-abstract landscape to Patchings 2016 which won an award. This was painted plein-air so don't give up on the idea, it's great to get out and about in the fresh air with your paints, whatever your subject, style or medium.

Sylvia, I've just added the willow tree sketch that I went out purposely to paint. The one already on there is an earlier drawing.
Just had a quick scan through a few of these current competitions to weigh up the opposition, as you do - there are some damn good drawings and paintings coming in, competition will be tough I feel. But we are all up for a challenge aren't we?

Spring has definitely sprung. I've just got back from my first real plein air trip of the year...on the North York Moors in a biting wind and ever more threatening sky. Grreat to get back outside after the worst Spring I can remember...and I can remember quite a few. Now just need to finish my oil sketch while I can still recall the scene and conditions.

I saw my first swallows of the year yesterday ... had my first barbecue on Saturday ... it's summer :D
The magnolia tree looks fantastic, the flowers aren't quite open on the ones here but they aren't far off. It's a great time of year.
Haven't been out to do any sketching yet though, I was hoping to today but after starting work at 04:30 and sitting for 3 hours in the rain I don't really want to spend any more time outside!

Yes, spring has sprung, and it's working overtime in my garden. I took ten big bags of garden rubbish up the tip yesterday. A few days ago I did venture out (maybe ten yards) to sketch a statue in my garden. So that's me done for the year. This open air art stuff isn't for me...horses for courses.

Rain yesterday here also, luckily for me, I made the best of the Friday 'til Sunday weather and blasted out a quick trio of plein-air oil sketches. Looks to be more promising today so I have my gear at the ready. It's so much nicer to get out and about after a long winter and disappointing Spring.
Yes Carol, most of the threads on here tend to wander off topic, but we don't want to turn this into 'Pistonheads'.
Aya, good sketch but Syd's car was a soft top, and where are those all important wire wheels and leather seats?
