I thought last week's programme was much better than the previous programme, we are back to painting from the model instead of from photos. I enjoyed this one, it was interesting to see someone working with electrical tape (I don't have that much patience!) but I did like the one that won, it was interesting and lively. AG Holder I was told I should enter the landscape one too, but I'm not happy with my style of landscape painting yet. If they do the wild card thing again I'm tempted to go along, it looked like fun to paint along with so many other people. Kay M
I've just caught up with this week's portrait artist of the year on Sky Arts. For a change I agreed with the judges and I picked the three who went forward and the eventual winner of this week session. Anyone else watched it?
I really enjoyed it (I caught up on Saturday). I thought the photo-realist painter's portraits (both the entry and the one done in the studio) were excellent and I'm not normally a fan of this kind of art, but he was very creative and I think he did well to achieve what he did in the time, given his style. I love seeing the variety of approaches that people have to a subject/sitter. I think the artists who painted Adrian Chiles all deserve some credit as he never stopped moving! Kay M.
I knew I shouldn't have read this thread as I haven't seen the final yet but now I know who the winner is!! I will watch it though, I've thought this programme has been excellent and far better than the BBC one.
