Alan - the artist was selling, or trying to sell, artworks (which were rather good) for far less money than it would have taken her to produce them: this is just bonkers, frankly!  If you have to sell your paintings at £3.00, when it would have taken you at least £7.50 to paint them...... well; I mean; that's so daft!   I don't for a minute think that multiplying your prices by X = silly greed is going to help you: but in this case, she was just giving them away; I don't MIND giving them away, so long as you know that's what you're doing: charity is good!  But she was so afraid to ask a reasonable price that I got a bit impatient with her: and was delighted when she told me she had sold half a dozen paintings at more realistic prices after I'd = well - told her off for underpricing her work.   I don't think trebling your prices is necessarily a great move (mind you: we'll both know of people who try it) but if you're grievously underpricing them, I think an inflationary hiccup is probably justified; and in this case - it did work.   I don't think it would necessarily work for me - though; it might be worth a try, eh?

Peter, there were some disconcerting news items the other day about Etsy. (Put ‘Etsy’ in the search field on the bbc news website to get full info). Worth a read of you’re into it long term
Actually it as reading that which gave me idea to use them Helen!  They might not pay up promptly but I've now got 60 pictures available for purchase rather than sitting in a cupboard under my stairs so I'll accept any delays.   The pricing does seem to be all over the place and you have to be careful because some are prints carefully worded to sound like original work. Mine are priced between £75 and £175, I'm not prepared to give them away. We'll see what happens!
Etsy seems to have a lot of cheaper type Art and I don't know anyone who's attempted selling higher priced Art on there , I know one or two craft people ( jewellry) who sell stuff around 25 euro a piece and do OK,  does Etsy take commission? When I got into selling my Art full time for a living over here many years ago I got the best advice ever from a lecturer in marketing, he told me to post not less than 2 times a week on FB and do it consistently for 2 years I did and it worked like magic. Through FB people came to my Art stand at Merrion Square in Dublin at weekends and I usually sell at least one a week online at FB as I post on every available platform I can  there . I target a lot of the American FB sites with my Irish landscape watercolours , one of these sites has 150, 000 followers so the chances of getting a hit are pretty good. Its basically free advertising and so worthwhile, after getting into FB I no longer had a need for a website.
I don't use FB but maybe I should.
After trying to sell some of my artworks on Etsy, I've decided to promote my own site with my rules and my commercial freedom.  Also, I do invite new and unknown artists for collaboration. Please visit: gogol.ca.
Ok, thanks. Adjusting prices to cover costs and fair compensation for artistic work is reasonable. Don't hesitate to value your art appropriately. I've just joined Facebook so we'll see what happens.
Just fixing the not working link as from the previous post about Kraken Art: Kraken Art/online art store
I looked at your link Kathy:  there's nothing on Kraken Art, other than an invitation to register with them and sign up to a newsletter; there are some comments in utterly baffling English, that seems to have been dragged through Google translate and then back the other way again several times - eg: " from   the   beginning Where   we   are   now Every single human can decide where to go one day and where to die sooner or later. And only very unique persons are even don't realized that sooner or later it'll happens to everyone... " What on earth is that supposed to mean?
Ah, I've actually found some pictures on the site, after a second visit.  I don't think it is a serious site - or even much of a non-serious site - likely to be of use or interest to our members.  It isn't even the same site as your previous posting - which shows as "not secure".  This is arousing my suspicions...

Well, it's been a month since I opened my Etsy shop - it seems longer! There has been zero interest, it seems to be a complete waste of time and effort.
