Still lying here feeling sorry for ny self but aware enough to ask a question and have a grumble . I am aware of the "quote " facility and can see its point in some circumstances. But it's over use in discussion is a right pain in the bum. I read a thread, I usually understand , then the bloody thing appears again and again.... little old nit picker me.....hear me ? Lil ole nit picker me ...hear me Lil nit picker me.

Hello Sylvia,
I think i am guilty of this! I am new to the forum and not really sure of protocol. But i can see how its a pain and makes things unnecessarily long.
I noticed someone had quoted a section of a quote, which seems a good idea....but then found i couldn't do it!! Any advice on that would help.
All the best.

The only time I really find it mildly irrating is when someone 'quotes' a massive comment and then responds to it with a single sentence. A lengthy reply IS best served by copying the whole comment to which the reply is aimed at...otherwise things get confusing, and it stops having to keep going back pages to follow the argument. Also, when somebody is commenting about a specific painting I think it worth copying and pasting the painting into his/her comment. (Especially in threads like Dixie's inspiration series, with masses of paintings on show.) That just makes life easier.
If I'm referring to a specific point, I prefer to type those words into my response.

It just isn’t necessary, well, on most threads anyway… just continue with the conversation.
I often cut and paste a small passage if I’m responding to a comment made a while back.
Sarah… the cut and paste facility does vary slightly depending on what technology you’re using, but it’s very simple!
I’m using Apple iPhone and an iMac, but both require a different technique.
What are you using? Someone on here will be able to help I’m sure…
