I too would be happy to keep this thread alive, just don't post to the Gallery very often as it seems to take me a while to complete a painting and I've never wanted to post WIP. However when I do I'll use this thread with details rather than one of the other threads that have opened up. I take your point about a link Robert, will have to discover how to do that. The last time I tried I ended up posting the picture not just a link. I too visit the site every day, sometimes twice. I firstly check those artists I follow, then search some by name, then go through the Gallery to see what I've missed. Sometimes I do find a gem from an artist I wouldn't have looked up specifically, or wouldn't have known about. Takes a while though, this morning I've been online for nearly an hour already!

When this thread first aired I was sceptical to say the least as to its necessity. If you want to know when a certain artist has posted a painting on the gallery just simply press the 'FOLLOW' button on their individual gallery and you will be alerted. I've never tried it but the facility is there so I expect that it works. So, why complicate or even duplicate what's already available?. Already, since this idea was started there have been 3 or 4 new threads appearing, all flagging up their work. I will also repeat what I said before, I personally would feel as though I was soliciting, touting, begging even for comments, and I'm not getting involved. The gallery is there to be viewed, only a small percentage of posters participate on the forum. Aren't we interested in looking at the work of those who don't participate?, of course we are - that's why we go to the gallery and comment, and of course there are new artists appearing frequently. These are my personal views, It doesn't matter one iota to me if it continues but count me OUT...
I have tried the follow button, but the system just send you an e-mail to let you know that the "followed artist" has posted something. It would be lovely if it took you straight to the painting, but not the case.
I thought at first it was a good idea but as there seems to be a few different threads going on the same thing I think it's died a death. I always look through the gallery every day anyway, I've just trawled through three pages since I looked yesterday and it takes quite a time but I enjoy looking and commenting at other peoples work so I don't mind. Sorry Syd, your good idea seems to have gone down the drain.
I agree...However, David Perry...Windmills...5th February 2018, 2015 hrs...Windmills in Amsterdam, watercolour, quarter Imperial, from a photo taken by a friend. D
Sandra, I am somewhat flattered that someone likes my work enough to put a watch on it. I suppose that once an alert is received, there is a fair chance that it's going to be on the first page, so there shouldn't, in essence, be any trawling through the pages to find the artists work. I'm not posting too many at the moment mind you - busy working on a series of new stuff to enter into this years Patching competition, they are of an industrial nature rather than landscapes, so more involved than my usual 60 minute stuff. Deadline closes mid-April if anyone feels like joining me and giving it a go this year.
Alan, whether the work of a followed artist is on the first screen or has wizzed off can depend on how soon one receives the alert, and how many other paintings have been uploaded in the meantime. Or rather how soon one can check after receiving the alert. Although I am usually able to check POL regularly, sometimes I can't, and also sometimes I miss things when trawling. I did miss a lovely painting of yours once, hence putting a watch on yours. The ability to follow those artists whose work I don't want to miss really has worked for me, I know that it isn't the way everyone uses POL of course. I think another factor is that 13 hour time difference, a number of works are posted while I am sound asleep of course! I know you're not posting many at the moment (missing them!). I wish you every success with the Patchings competition - are we likely to hear how you got on?
