Early yesterday morning when I looked out of the window, as everywhere was covered in snow, I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to go into town and take a few photos for painting. Although there was less snow in town than in the village where I live I still got quite a few good shots which I shall be using.
One opportunity which arose was in the town square - there was no one about as it was still quite early except for a father pulling two little girls along on a sledge which made a delightful subject. Although I am fully aware of the legal position that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place I nevertheless thought it only right and courteous to ask the father's permission before snapping them. When I explained the reason for wanting to take the photos and what I wanted to achieve he willingly agreed. However as soon as I lifted my camera both the children and the father turned to face me and posed for the camera giving big cheesy grins.
I had to smile and it just demonstrates the difference between those who have an artistic appreciation and understanding and those who don't.

With the situation as it is today Michael, regarding children, you did the right thing entirely by asking permission, others can get the wrong impression and probably would, however, a nice little story all the same, even if you never got the shot you wanted.
It was a fabulous vista yesterday, all fresh snow, and I made the best of it by staying indoors and painting two oil sketches from the view from my studio window, It was a bit too cold for plein-air painting, although it would have been great fun... I think!.
