I would like to share some news , for the last nearly twelve years I have worked as a volunteer ranger for the National Trust in the Chiltern woodlands. Unfortunately due to a deterioration in health and must admit getting  a bit old for the job, I am having to give it up. Well that’s the door closed as they say, but unexpectedly another opened. About six years ago I did my first painting work shop for staff and volunteers it was a basic introduction, this is the paper to use etc. I then went on to do six or seven open to the public as a fund raiser , all went well till Covid came along. The upshot is that I have been ask to take on the role of Artist in Residence at Hughenden Manor Portfolio  , running art project and involvement in art related exhibitions etc. Door wide open I think. I’m sure it’s a grant title for a general dog’s body who does it for free , but nice to feel wanted and valued all the same.
Congratulations, Paul. I think as we get to that certain age, it’s really uplifting to find we’re still appreciated for our artwork and what we can pass on. Enjoy….
Well done Dogs body….You will be great.
That’s great news, Paul. What a boost to be appreciated. You have a lovely manner in your posts and I’m sure, in person.
You've obviously made a great impression in your workshops Paul so well done.
Thank you all for you comments . Just before Covid hit the National Portrait Gallery had planned to exhibit at Hughenden but unfortunately it was cancelled. I was asked at the time to run some workshops to encourage children and adults to attempt portraits, I’m hoping it will be rearranging. The portfolio also cover West Wycombe , Bradenham Manor and a Hugh area of countryside including old farms , so lots of scope next year for painting out in the fresh air . Lots of old barns, farmhouse etc.
That's terrific, Dixie.  A new interest, a new enthusiasm.  They've offered it because they know you're the man for the job. Great news.
Thanks Lew , I hated the thought of giving up my ranger role , I managed a team of fellow volunteers and it was like been at work.  I think I would have missed the banter etc more than the actual work , I will need to find something to stop the flab developing now , the work was more beneficial than a gym work out . I can now officially become a KOS ( knackered old sod) mind you I’ve probably been that for years  but nobody has told me .
What a great opportunity for you Paul, it’s nice to know people appreciate you.  Congratulations!!  they clearly see you as the man for the ‘job’
That's fabulous news Paul, that's such a compliment and am sure as one door closes (as you say) this brand new door will be even shinier!
That’s great news Paul. A lovely opportunity for you to pass your knowledge and skills to others doing something you enjoy.
That's fantastic Paul and what a place to run a work shop. I should imagine you will get as much joy from it as the eager artist's.
