She is a very happy child but I say to her don't smile, it's because I prefer portraits that are unsmiling, not that there is anything wrong with a smiling portrait.
Conté is a great brand - I like the warmth of your portrait, though these pencils, as you'll have discovered, take a lot of getting used to: once you have, they're just about the best.  I would encourage you - nay, dammit, I do encourage you! - to work further with them, I know they'll suit you.   I am not an agent for Conté ....  But they are a great brand, and I will accept commission. Does your granddaughter also paint and draw?  Have a competition with her: it's her turn to draw/paint you!
She does like to draw and paint and sometimes when she stays over, we will do something together. She is very interested in how I achieve some of the effects, so I try and explain about shade and light. I am going away for a few days next week, North east, on the coast. I'm staying in a detached cliff top lodge, overlooking the cliffs and sea. I'm taking these pencils, some charcoal. Maybe some watercolours. I intend sketching the lodge and views, I think the lodge is sandstone, it looks quite interesting for sketching along with it's surroundings. I like the colours of these two pencils and feel they will lend themselves very well, with a delicate touch, to a sandstone building. They blend very well, Robert and I really liked the quality of them.
I really am looking foward to that - no pressure, obviously.
Where in the North East Denise? As far as Northumberland ?
Between Whitby and Saltburn Marjorie.
Denise! That’s not the North East! Come up a bit further!😄 I think the weather might be ok after tomorrow…have a good break!
Thanks Marjorie.
Denise, you will be somewhere near Staithes which is a beautiful harbour town where many famous artists have painted. We stayed on the North York Moors a few years ago, lovely area. Enjoy!
The beginning of a thought.   One blessing of my eye probs is that I can still see colour , and my goodness the colours this autumn have been gob smacking. This is a bit of brusho, crayon and sharpie. I have a landscape canvas ..quite large . So a bit of good light and I will have a go.
Beautiful colours and twisting shapes Sylvia.
Very good Sylvia.
