Anyone have any art related goals o4 new years resolutions?
Personally I have some life drawing classes lined up... this will be outside my comfort zone in a few respects, firstly the time constraints, secondly working from life and thirdly people being able to watch and comment 9n my work. Still they say you can't grow without some discomfort...
Anyone else going to try something new?
Merry Xmas all...

I've taken on a rather exacting voluntary role - foolishly, in some respects - so my resolution is to fit in some painting regardless; and to that end, I have someone helping me build a new website, since my old one is beyond me to maintain and uses old and no longer supported software.
Normally, I've never bothered with resolutions - but I think I need to keep this one.

I had a bad end to the year with major complications following routine surgery and you couldn't even write the script.
I was painting with a group in a community centre a week after a hernia repair when my wound burst. The room was flooded and the bleed was described as being like a chocolate fountain. How lucky was I that a trained first aider was able to cut away my clothing (on public display - no time for modesty) and apply compression to staunch the blood flow – she was assisted by a physiotherapist who took it in turns with her.
The paramedics arrived about half an hour later and were able to get a compression bandage around my groin. The ambulance then turned up and rushed me straight into resusc where I had a near cardiac arrest. A theatre was opened for me and I had corrective surgery later that day. Twenty four hours after the initial bleed I was discharged and on my way home having cheated death all thanks to the first aider with whom I am now in regular contact and the medical crew who attended to me.
This all happened in mid-November and thankfully I am now virtually recovered and it all seems like a bad dream. The risk of hematoma occurring is not uncommon within 24 to 48 hours but to happen 7 days after surgery was described to me as being about 1000 to 1 – the things I do for attention.
Anyway it had a great ending – when I got home I got a phone call appointing me as artist to an estate agency - and this is the bit that really adds the final chapter to the saga – they purchased the painting I had nearly completed when the incident occurred. Unlike the furniture and the carpets, it was free of and blood stains or splashes - thankfully.
So for next year (which is now only a few hours away) all I hope for is to wake up each morning breathing – the rest will be a bonus. Beyond that I have quite a few engagements in the diary and other work lined up.

Thanks Marjorie and Sylvia - no I didn't get a bill but I did make a donation - it's run by a Church and it couldn't have happened at a better place or among more caring people - I owe so much to them.
By the way it was not just the cleaning up but the towels and blankets they supplied which had to be discarded.
On the question of waking up and breathing - if I also need to go for a pee I know all's well with the world.

It's New Year's morning Michael, and I've just read your hernia story with more than a little trepidition. I've had a hernia problem for about five years which I mainly ignored as it wasn't causing me any real problems...till about six months ago when it certainly started to. Went to the Docs eventually and he booked me an appointment with a consultant. Did that and was told "we'll get you in for a pre-op examination ( had that) and fix an op date. We'll write to you"
That was a couple of months ago, and still nothing. After reading your story, although I know it needs doing, I'm a bit less eager. Three of my family (grown up kids) have had the hernia op with no problems. My fingers are firmly crossed. Happy New Year....😆
