I know a lot of people, and especially Sylvia!, don't like ornate gold frames - snag is, I love 'em..... But I'm not at all sure they help to sell a painting, so I don't use them very often, just on those pictures I want to keep myself. I begin to suspect I might be a bit old-fashioned..... what with weskits, and watch-chains, and other foibles....
But - just to keep me company, come on! - does ANYONE out there like gold ormolu frames, with swags and piercings......? Mine aren't really that elaborate, just a gold strip with decorative corners and a bit in the middle perhaps, but I do like them; by candlelight...? (I'm making this worse all the time, aren't I...?) That antique look..? Hmmm?
I've liked all the frames I've seen in this thread, which really bring out the qualities of the work - Marjorie's, for example, would NOT have benefited from an elaborate frame, but looks lovely in the one she chose for it.

I do like ornate frames for certain paintings but I think it does take the eye away from the actual painting. It does depend on the type of house too, I live in a cottage so really modern frames look stupid as do ornate frames look so out of place in a modern house. Good job we are not all the same!

I love your ornate frame - I may be alone in this on the entire site, but I don't care, see.......!
PS - Actually, I see I'm not quite alone after all. Lilysnana tells us they collect dust, but then - so do I! Every now and then I get a flick with a feather duster (well, it keeps you off the streets troubling the horses....) but I think this is a plus: all frames collect dust, and too often we don't notice and so neglect to clean them until it's corroded our nice metal frames; whereas with a bit of gilt, swags, ormolu, not to mention grapes, you see the dust and attend to it before it has a chance to do too much damage.
Now is that an ingenious justification, or is that an ingenious justification?
