Sorry, I couldn’t attach the link. I’m sure many of you have read that one of his paintings has been hung upside down for many years and apparently will stay that way. 🥴
It was Mondrian I think, wasn't it?..I laughed..
They are leaving it as it’s been upside down in many galleries for 75 years . They fear that it may get damage if they put it the correct way up . Should have said nothing no one would have known , and will it look any better?.
Put together with coloured adhesive tape wasn't it - which is in a poor shape, and might fall off if the picture were shown the right way up.  Now there's yer proof - if you make paintings - make 'em with paint.  (And also write "This Way Up" on the back... or of course, sign it; which in this case he didn't.)   I'm a bit of a fan of Mondrian - thankfully, a lot of his work still exists, in good nick.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, this  is the piece as it’s currently hung. Apparently the thicker band of coloured tape at the bottom represents the sky. I wonder how many people have happily viewed this in the decades it has hung there, without realising!
Hm.  As I averred in my previous encomium - yes, it's swallow a dictionary week here at the Batcave - I'm a fan of Mondrian's generally; but I can't say I think it would be any tragedy if this work did indeed fall to pieces.

How do they know it's his and not a forgery?
A programme I saw a while ago about forgery in art suggested that up to 40% of paintings in the high-end art market could be fakes.  And watching the Fake or Fortune series it seems that even the ‘experts’ can’t always agree - what’s declared a fake one year can be re-evaluated by a different ‘expert’ years later and declared to be the real thing!
