It's been covered before but....I was just thinking today as I scrolled through the gallery about a certain artist who is prolific, not British ( but language is not the problem ), yet doesn't get many comments on his competent work. I did comment once, about a woman in very high heels, tight skirt, with a bicycle and I actually got a humorous response. But he never seems to acknowledge comments as a rule and he doesn't leave comments on anyone else's work. Why does he bother to show his work? Personally, I like to connect with other painters and have a "conversation".
I've been thinking the same Marjorie, probably not the same person you are thinking about but there are very many who don't acknowledge comments. A simple thank you would be enough, it's nice to talk! Perhaps those ungrateful people will see this and think about the error of their ways.
The trouble is that (unless I've missed something) if you go in and say "Thanks" the person who has left you a comment doesn't get notified that you've added a comment in reply
I think a lot depends on how much time artists have to spend on the the site and how familiar they are with the facilities. I find it a bit hard to keep up with the gallery and look at the forum as well. I don't always look for responses to my comments, as i don't think I could keep up. I do try to put in a thank you to people who have commented on my work though. But I'm retired and in theory have time on my hands. What I find most frustrating though is artists, who say nothing about their work. Similarly artists who disappear without any reason why.
I have to say I generally only have time to view the first page of the gallery when I log in so if I comment on a painting, which I do if it attracts my attention, I only re-view it if it is still on the first page when I next log in, and usually it has moved on. I agree with Marjorie (I was brought up to agree with Marjories because my mother was one!) that its good to acknowledge comments and I usually do but time and the large throughput of the gallery might mitigate against every comment getting acknowledged.
You won't get slated I'm sure Dermot, there are more than a couple of these contenders for the title and it shows complete disregard for other's work, they are not worth patronising and I don't, simple as that. There are a fair few posting at present who take no interest in making any comments but I suppose that it is their prerogative.
I always thank anyone who comments on my work because I am so grateful that they have taken the time to do so as I do not consider my work to be worthy.
Oh but it is MorganLeFey, it's always from the heart.
<div>Awww Thank you Fiona.</div>
How right you are Sylvia, it's good to join in conversations etc., and yes, I am also getting to recognise various people's work and look forward to seeing what next gem they will produce. I always get a thrill when I get comments on my work and I always thank everyone, it's so nice that people take the time to look. There are some stunning artists who publish their work which are all so different. I have gained so much confidence since I joined as I was quite nervous to show my art but this place is so friendly I also feel like we are all friends. So thank you all for making me feel so welcome.
There are some lovely people who post both here and in the gallery and it makes visiting the site such a pleasure. Just one point I would ask of MorganLeFey: after a bit of digging I think you might be Donna Crane in the gallery. Am I right?
Thanks Donna = one of the merry band eh what?
