A new take on this great painting hobby of ours.
I have recently redesigned my back garden and wanted a wall sculpture for the brick wall adjacent to the studio to take off the starkness. I searched the web and found some simple wood sculptures but the prices were, to my mind, ridiculous so I decided to make my own but was hesitating about how to colour it. I wanted to give it some colour whilst still allowing the character of the wood to show through. I finally decided to raid my acrylic paints and use weak washes and got the desired effect. It probably won't stand the test of time but it'll be easy to repaint it if and when the paint fades. In the meantime it looks pretty good and gone down well with our friends and visitors - we do observe distance and only entertain in the garden by the way.
The result's below - please forgive the perspective.
Just wondering if anyone else has done anything along these lines - great fun and saved a few bob.

That really good Michael, my youngest daughter who is very talented has several , decorative pieces in her garden.
They are bright and cheerful and do make a talking point, another skill to your already many . It’s particularly good as you have achieved your aim by not over paining it , they tend to look plastic with too much paint on.

That's excellent, Micheal. The nearest I've done to that was this construction made out of old bits of wood and painted pebbles.
It hung in my garden shed for a while, and was then moved outside onto a wall. I'd stuck the pebbles on with what I'd thought was a pretty powerful glue. After a frosty night, I found the pebbles on the ground. I cleaned them up and put them on a shelf in our spare room. Here they are...
Whenever my grandsons visited I'd find them re-arranged.
Your piece has inspired me to have another go.

Michael and Lewis - your works are inspirational!
Lewis the possibilities of pebbles with features are endless. You could interchange features and make different characters......
Michael - down here in the South West driftwood seems to be the most popular medium to construct sculptures. I keep intending to go and collect some, but I'm avoiding beaches with people on at the moment.
