I'm glad you all agree the wild cards deserve more of a mention, I would really love to see more of their paintings. Even if its online like a slideshow.  I know Jacqueline can you imagine how she felt when she got there, I bet her heart sank.  Peter i loved his submission too it was very brooding and well just beautifully painted.  Tessa I have to agree this years standard has gone up. I cant wait for next week!!
That’s a very good idea about the wild cards Jen, and there are only 50 of them so it would be do-able. Perhaps we ought to write and suggest it!? I think the weather so far in this series has emphasised the lengths (and distance) they go to to get there. It’s great that painting takes place in such different and far flung venues but this often means considerable travel, taking someone with you, maybe staying overnight etc. A friend applied herself and was offered a place in an episode recorded in I think Cumbria, from Gloucestershire, so decided too far for a days painting. Of course if you’re in the main competition it’s more worth making a few days of it.

Wow Tessa well done to your friend getting offered a place on it though, even though it was too far to travel. It must have felt amazing just being offered that place.  Think we deffo need to write to them and ask for it. I bet theres loads and loads of talented artists we could find out about by them doing it.
Week 3 fujuko rose won. Now I'm not saying she didnt deserve it, shes a fantastic artist, I follow her on instagram and have done since she was on it last year, but I do feel that she wasnt the winner, and they only put her through as,  1: it was the second time she had been in this position, and 2: they wanted some other medium than oil paint to show they can be different, rather than going for the best piece on the day. I also think the wild card was the best painting of the day too.  What's your opinion this week?
I agree she was very good but they do sometimes seem to like to choose someone using anything but paint! I couldn’t find this thread the other day, so couldn’t comment earlier! Again I felt the entry submissions were more impressive than the work on the day,  but perhaps that’s to be expected as they are faced with a subject not of their choosing etc.. At least the weather was kinder this week.
It's in general discussion if your looking for it again Tessa.  Yeah I do think it must be hard to be presented with something not of your choosing, and be told there you go do that. If it's not speaking to you, then you have had it. I really liked the other ladies with the orange undertones, that really spoke to me. That was my winner last week.  Think they are back at Plymouth hoe this week, and back to the rain. 😂
Thanks Jen. Can’t wait! I do also think they’re quite limited in having the pods set up for the main eight. I thought with the Herstmonceux week, had I been one of the eight, I would like to have moved from the pod out nearer the castle and spheres! In fact I believe when Haidee-Jo took part she did that. Obviously you wouldn’t do it in torrential rain and wind.  I guess part of the appeal is that we rarely agree with the judges, so we are always guessing, but also thinking how we would tackle the subject!
Well Tessa I was wrong as to where they were this week lol. Looks like we found out why they couldn't take off to the castle, whilst they were at the spheres. That's where they were this week!!! Cant have 2 the same. 😂 What did you think if the winner this week? Personally I thought it was the second best, my fave didnt even make it into the top 3, it was the one who didnt even do the castle, he just did the bridge. I thought it was so interesting that little slice.
Jen, I agree, wasn’t that fussed with the winner. You’re right about the guy who didn’t paint the whole castle. He chose a good little section and made a nice job of it. It’s such a huge building it would be very challenging to paint the whole thing successfully. I sometimes watch it twice (sad?!) to see what I missed, and to see the actual paintings better because you don’t see that much of them. 🎨
It's not sad! I'm currently watching all the old watercolour challenges, and I have watched older series of portrait and landscape over again. Theres not enough of them on the tv.  And your right they dont show us enough of their work for long enough.
Oh, if only we were in charge!
Jen how do you get to watch the old water colour challenge progs?  A lovely friend of mine Alister Winter Roberts was in it many years ago. He is no longer with us and I’d love to see a programme with him in it.
