Well - I'm not in the market for a new easel, or attachments, because I don't paint plein air - too much arthritis.   But while you are describing what you propose to build, you're going to need more informative and better presented sketches if you're even just  hoping for others to suggest the modifications they'd like.       When I did paint  plein air, the biggest issue wasn't so much ease of access to equipment, but how to find an easel that was both portable and substantial enough to cope with rough ground and wind  - and that's a challenge that is very hard to meet, because of the weight problem: too light and it wobbles all over the place at the first brush stroke, too heavy and you can't handle the thing... There are easels out there, and attachments to them, some self-designed by painters, which attempt to meet the problems of painting outside, and probably holding brushes and, for those who use them, mediums, is going to be high on the list of desiderata.
I have to agree with Robert here, you need better drawings, not freehand! And more explanation etc… However, most issues for the plein air painter have been addressed if I’m not mistaken - I’ve posted two excellent pochade boxes that pretty much cater for most eventualities, correct me if I’m wrong! New Wave Pochade Box Open Box M Pochade Box Comes in different sizes, considered to be the best make on the market. American company and do deliver to uk. There are a whole host of other brands which do the job, my personal preference for painting oils plein air, is a French easel, or even the half French easel… very portable!

Post removed, I see - and probably the right decision.
I couldn’t see any issues with it!
Well frankly, neither could I: I was being nice - often a mistake.  I've restored it - the whole thread makes no sense without the original.

Well I very nearly restored it yesterday, but I’m glad you did so today Robert.. For god’s sake let’s give these new posters some benefit of the doubt, not surprising that we aren’t picking up many new members.
Hopefully she will come back to us on this. Those pochade boxes are superb Alan. I was looking at prices etc recently and some info on YouTube. Something I had not thought of is that if you use a palette/painting knife on a box with magnets, your knife can be literally stopped in its tracks which would be very off putting!
If your palette knives are stainless steel, then they should not be very magnetic.  I will have to experiment.
I have tested my palette knives on my magnetic knife rack.  There is a little attraction but nothing like as strong as the kitchen knives, so I don’t think it would stop you in your tracks.  Hope this helps.
It was only a mention on a YouTube demo which I thought might be useful. It’s not a problem I would have thought likely but no doubt worth bearing in mind if you’re looking at that kind of set up. Don’t think I’ll be painting Plein air for the next few months at least!
