For lovers of this great artist, there is a programme on channel 116 BBC 4 tonight at 9pm titled: Turner: The Man Who Painted Britain
Thanks Alan, will watch that.
Yes, I'll be taking a look at that, thanks Alan.
Thank you for the info Alan, I’ll tune in for that. As an aside, did I miss anything by not watching last weeks LAOTY? Forgot about it!
Probably not Fiona! I haven't seen it either, having just watched the Northern Ireland one I need to let my blood pressure recover.
Last week’s was Northern Ireland - Strangford Lough.  At least they had a proper landscape to paint this time!  This was the winning painting - the best of the final three but, as usual, some of the judges’ decisions were hard to fathom.

I've just watched it after making my comment above......I thought one painting stood head and shoulders above the others and needless to say it wasn't in the final three.  The one I was referring to was of a large Gothic house, a couple of weeks ago.....they must have filmed both programmes on the same visit. I really cannot begin to understand their criteria for choosing the best work, if just baffles me. Peter
That will be a no then to the question above…..thanks Jenny and Peter. Has it been a disappointing series this time, or am I expecting far too much? I couldn’t quite get my head around the first three locations.
,You didn’t miss a great deal Fiona! However they were given a more ‘normal’ landscape subject to paint. I did find the first ? three episodes of race course/roller coaster bizarre, unless they were trying to see how the contestants handled a change of content and movement half way through. The entry submissions are usually more exciting than the works on the day, but of course the artists have chosen their own subjects and are able to take as long as they like and without having a camera and some silly comments lobbed at them. Naturally I’ll be watching on Wednesday! I’m a sucker for punishment. 🤣 Then I’ll watch the Turner programme to bring back normality.
