The block. I just haven't got the ideas at present, so will clean the palette, maybe buy some new paints and stuff and wait for that moment. Not usually long for me.
Look out of the window Derek........ Says she who hasnt done a hands tap in an age.
I am also in a bit of a lapse and have just started something completely different (well for me at least) and will post it later when complete
Alan Owen was talking about this in his latest YouTube video, thankful that he had hundreds of old paintings and sketches he could consult for reference. I think we get into this sort of mood at just this time of year - dark and dank outside; if there were snow, it would be different, but it's just rain and mud. A bit of sunshine should help. I'm just going with what occurs to me at the moment - if in doubt do something different, so I'm working on a portrait sketch, using one of the oldest techniques known to me in order to accomplish it. True though that in every portrait, even an animal one, there's nearly always something of our own features peeking through.... Tell you what - in the hope it'll cheer you up, I show the wombat I did for my mother's 90th birthday card.... maybe it'll give Derek some ideas too.........
Take a break, that's what I did for a week and now back in full swing again. Subjects are a problem, I'm trying to get out and paint a bit more, always weather permitting, find a pull in down a lane and find your subject, it will be there if you look hard enough and with an open mind.
Sometimes suffer from lack of inspiration (all too obvious if you view my paintings!) especially when it is cold and dank. Happily it doesn't last long usually and something kicks me off again.
Thanks everyone. It doesn't bother or get to me, I just take a break and read a lot. I have access to the huge WC image gallery anyway, there are others if I searched and there is always something popping up inthe news.
If you really feel that you need a break, Derek, then that is the best thing to do, but getting new materials etc? Sounds to me as though you are just fed up of lacking inspiration? Your old materials serve you well in the work of yours which I have seen! I wonder, would it help to take a look at You Tube art painting videos? Some of them are very good and can act as a stimulus. This is what I do from time to time when the painting bug deserts me. It can act as a stimulus, to me, anyway, and will often give me ideas. I can get very honed in on my own little painting world at times, despite the camaraderie and support of P.O.L And I must confess I can get quite depressed when I see the work of other artists who are producing such super work whilst I am biting my nails with frustration. But then I generally get on a roll again, so fingers crossed for you.
Hope you get your inspiration back soon Derek. I'm struggling at the moment as well....isn't it a relief to know you're not alone!
When I struggle I sometimes try painting something - anything - in a completely different style to my norm. Today I painted a sort of Italian type scene which I made up - will photo it in the morning and post it.
I've never used Paint My Photo but I'll try it out - the painting I referred to above was posted in the gallery so if you haven't already seen it its at:http://www.painters-online.co.uk/gallery/art-view,picture_162120.htm
I do surf the WetCanvas free photo library when searching, but if the mood ain't there, it ain't there, thankfully for not too long.
