Has the market for researched, hand painted heraldic coats of arms been replaced by computer generated badly researched mock ups, where no attention is given to heraldic guidlines and if unsure a crest is replaced by 3 ostrich feathers and the mantle colored with whatever looks nice ? Opinions and feedback greatly appreciated. Steve
The answer is 'probably', although I have no first-hand knowledge having only touched briefly on heraldry at college. Are you referring to anything specific which is on the gallery at the moment? I see that there is a Steve Smith who has posted some historic figures and heraldic coats of arms, perhaps that's you or is it this work that has prompted your question?. One thing that I am certain of is that a good deal of this type of work will now be computerised, the skills of drawing these detailed designs out and using the old methods of colouring/gold leaf etc. will be dwindling away gradually, a pity of course but that's what they call progress - I am only guessing, there may well be some heraldic artist's on here who will give you some better information.
I think that there are quite a few produced/embroidered in China, with outlets in the USA.
