I would say I wouldn’t have Alan’s contribution on my wall, nor, in fact, the one I have posted. Alan’s is just a proof that someone can paint without detail, ( my humble opinion) and mine is too much like a photo. Go life by all means. Go intricate by all means, but sublime to the extreme is on show, a caveats meal for the rest to read. Now, if the for mentioned pieces weren’t any good. Would we bother a response? Both artists work can be copied easily, the style of Alan’s …. my one with timescale. ‘Them horses’ need to be lowered to pony for an easier dismount. All reaction is good though

This is a portrait by Philipp Weber, one of the artists whose work features on the best.face.art FB group. Judging by this, maybe the portrait that Martin posted above could actually be what it says it is - a portrait in oil on canvas (it doesn’t say who the artist is). Apparently he only finishes one or two portraits a year.

I don't like the paintings any better, no matter how they were achieved. Painting at that scale - whether meticulously plotted or not - a) is much easier, and b) lends the whole thing the appearance of an Athena print. But there will be those who like that, and those who won't - ultra precision which produces soulless work - which I find this to be - can be admired for its undeniable skill; but still leaves me either terminally unimpressed, or actively hostile. Could I really explain why? Um: no. Not without a lot more thought than I feel inclined to give it.
