Couldn't help but notice that a new contributor has uploaded 64 images over the last 16 days, and presumably is setting up his entire back catalogue as a kind of personal website. Does any-one know what the current record for consecutive four a day postings is?
I don't know but would love to if anyone does. No wonder paintings vanish "in a nanosecond" as someone said on another thread, and the reason that I "follow" quite a number of my favourite artists. And when going through the Gallery look for specific names as well as looking at the paintings.
Well, POL touts itself as a personal gallery space so we're going to attract people like that every now and again. I think I know who you're talking about - I skim past his stuff and I figure I'm not the only one
You're making me nervous about my own copious amount of posts now. I wasn't too aware it mattered as long as the gallery itself governed your input? I always regarded the gallery as a sort of painters get-together ??
I did notice one day that there were 8 consecutive paintings by one person - I'm guessing 4 at the end of one day and another 4 as soon as the new day started (though only guessing - may have been a slow posting day). It does take a while to get used to how new forums operate and the difference between what is allowed and what most folk do. I did manage to post 4 of the same image one day from my phone when I had a problem uploading - followed by a mad scrabble trying to take 3 back down!
Ah a welcome break for Christmas, I have noticed. Despite my own negative reaction, I would be the first to admit that four a day is not breaking any site rules, but I do find it counterproductive. Like Alan g, I simply skim past them. There was a pastel artist not so long ago who did multiple postings, with the net effect they got skimmed over. The tragedy was that they were really good pieces of artwork, exceptionally good in many cases. But until the rate of posting slowed it was difficult to appreciate each one. I have to admit that when I first joined the site, I did post some old paintings from my back catalogue, as I was interested to see what people would think of them, though I did so at the rate of one a day - I had no illusions that people would want more. I know this is a phrase that is on the forum 'naughty list', but I think in this case less is more. It is difficult to appreciate individual pieces when they come at you en masse, so to speak, and paintings disappear into the depths of the POL archive so quickly these days, it is difficult to go back and find things unless you can remember the title or the artists name. It is a difficult subject as no rules are being broken, and indeed there are contributors, or should I say 'site characters', who often post 2 or 3 a day, and I certainly look forward to them, and would miss them if they ceased. These are, I think, people who genuinely do produce a couple of new works most days, and I would hate to discourage them. It's just that, sometimes, you get the feeing that the multiple postings are more more personal benefit than a genuine desire to share and discuss.
I wonder if they ever bother to read the responses, mainly because many of the multi-posters never reply to their comments. I would have thought it was simply good manners to acknowledge a post, AND it helps to develop a camaraderie between members and on the site in general. People can be distracted by other commitments, of course, but not all the time. It tends to put you off. Bri
Please don't stop posting, Alan - I love your paintings! and I appreciate your comments too :)
