I was asked recently how quick can I do a painting. I flippantly ash how long a piece of string was, the person was quite serious. I thought about it and said I could probably do a quick woodland landscape in half an hour using a loose technique. I wax then presented with a black and white photo of  inside a railway shed showing three people and a steam engines with wheelbarrows for removing the ash from the fire boxes. I was then asked if I could paint the scene in one hour. Some what shaken I said I would give it a go. A stop watch was produced an I had exactly one hour to set up and finish the painting, I was unsure if the painting was been set up or me.  Her is the result using watercolour and some waterproof pen work, unaltered from the day it was done, thereby warts and all. Adde the one in the frame for comparison.
Well Dixie I think you did pretty darn well! We’re you set up? Yes probably, but I’d be very pleased with this regardless of time!
Thank you Tessa yes it was a set up, payback for a trick I’d played on someone. When they were working in the woodland we change the vehicle  over and it wasn’t until he called that he could not get the keys to fit the the Land Rover did he realises. He had one of the participants at a workshop I was leading help him get back, still it backfired a bit as I went over by about 45 seconds.
Well done!  I go to an art class every week that last's 2 hours.  I have many unfinished paintings as as result.  However, I am renowned for how quickly I can draw portraits e.g. full colour portrait in pastel pencil in 20 mins!.  Watercolour though takes me ages.  Teacher tells me that I should spend most of my time planning and preparing and less time actually painting.
Well done you...
Well done!
Well done Paul, It would take me about an hour to draw the picture let alone paint it.
Tried this once, as an experiment.  Produced an acrylic inside an hour - don't know if I can find it; wonder if I still have it....  anyway, it was OK; trees, mind, none of your architectural studies; I liked it - a friend said "I hate it".   Sniffle. I've not tried it since.
Thanks for the comments. I must admit I quite enjoy the challenge, it some how brinks out a bit of creativity that pushes you along. I think it made me concentrate more on what needed to be done and not fiddle with it. I would recommend giving it a go, but get someone to pick the subject matter. I’m not able to paint at the moment due to the decorators doing the house top to bottom, but I’m intending having another go in the New Year.
