I know this has been chewed over before but why cant people joining the forum give a little personal details such as their names , gender, other interests , age . The addition of these details gives a better more friendly feeling to the forum . and why are we getting so many with identities hidden with a nom de plume dificult,to remember with numbers etc. Why is this more desirable than a name.?Dont be shy!.....Syd
I feel the same way, I'm sure many of us do, what are people hiding from?, and As Syd rightly says, it's good to have a bit of background knowledge, for pure interest sake, not because we are being nosey.
I hate numbers as well, I can never remember them Maybe people just think thats how it is. But yes it would be nice to have a bit of background info .
There doesn't seem to be a Meet & Greet page so I'll go first: Alan Green, 56, from Little Cambridge in northern Essex, surrounded by farmland. I'm a professional musician, playing solo guitar at weddings and corporate events, teaching guitar for Essex County Council, and lead guitarist for the Essential Sounds Big Band, based in Harwich. I've always wanted to be able to draw but it had to take a back seat whilst a career in Investment Banking and my guitar work took centre stage. Redundancy is a wonderful thing; I did an OU degree and ramped up my guitar work. A chap needs a hobby, so I picked up a pencil and started learning some new skills.
My turn, John Rowland Kay, (though I never use my second name, even though it makes me look as if I lead Steppenwolf, a pop group) grew up in Fulham London, ex-art teacher, Quaker by convincement, demonstrator and lecturer in art subjects, first love Watercolour. lives in Fordham Colchester Essex, I can always be reached at [email protected].
Well, I am Mia Ketels. I live in Blankenberge (15km from Bruges) on the Belgian Coast. I was trained as an art teacher in the 60ties and after a few years of teaching, started working as a secretary in a school. I didn't draw or paint for several years, but after my retirement, I took up watercolour painting because I loved the technique. I also love pen and wash very much and this became my favorite as you can see in my Gallery. After taking part in a few group exhibitions, I had a lot of solo's and could pay my materials because of that. I posted a lot on the POL-site and took part in the Forum. This is a bit difficult, English is not my usual language although I speak Flemish (Dutch is not quite the same), French, German and English fluently, writing is a different bit. Due to health problems, I am not painting for the moment but I still log in on the POL-site, follow the discussions and have a look at the postings in the Gallery. I wish you all a lot of creativity and I hope to start painting again very soon :) Mia
Hello Mia ; just received a mail about your posts. I don'tcome on POL forum any more as it's just too complicated. The old site was so much easier to use and find what we wanted.Sorry to hear that you still have health problems. I hope you'll soon be well enough to take up a pen and brushes again. Best wishes, Avie.
I've updated my bio on my profile as you suggested syd but I can't see where on my profile it's visible.
I have no section to edit personal details like you do on yours syd.
I think as time goes on you learn about each other. I am not hiding anything really, I am here to learn improve and share - plus make virtual friends with a common interest!! I will say that I am male and can be an idiot at times. Passionate about HM Armed Forces and helping veterans.
I've just deleted my intro from this stream and pasted it into the new section called Artist Introductions - here's hoping a few others make use of this new addition to the gallery
