I love poppies - well, who doesn't? - but they are difficult to put in a painting, I find, because they shout at you - 'look at me, look at me!': and you do, you can't help it. So, they've got to be in the right place. Sylvia's dandelions - I love those, too: and so did my sadly late tortoise, one Oswald - are a lot easier to place, being a rich yellow rather than eye-grabbing scarlet. It's time I painted a Spring picture, before we've entirely lost it and we're in to Summer; so I may well avail myself of some of these photos.
Is there still a free photo resource on this website? There used to be - I must look when I have a minute.

I try to paint en plein air as often as I can and/or use my own photos. I really enjoy sketching on site when I'm on holiday and often take photos to capture a scene or moment in time to work up into a landscape at home weeks or months later. Like Linda I occasionally use the Unsplash and Pixabay websites for copyright-free reference photos, with an appropriate credit to the photographer.
I'm loving the idea of sharing our own photos on this site for other artists to use. Perhaps there might be some merit in adding a photo library resource as part of the Studio membership we can all contribute to.
