- but no Angela Rippon (?). I'm wondering why the sudden surge of the above. Painting the challenges can be enjoyable but are they the same challenges? No cameras, no judges, no pressure - in your own home. How are they done? Freeze frame the telly? I would love to see self portraits done in two hours, sketches of real moving animals, portraits done "in situ". And the comments - " better than the contestants" etc. Come on...Now let the flak begin.

I for one could not paint in the environment of lights, camera, action with the added horror of time quickly ticking by.
I'm in the minority of actually liking the Big Painting Challenge, though. I thought last night's portrait challenge had a few good results. When I paint a portrait I need at least three hours of concentration and quiet, I even turn off the radio. That doesn't include the drawing of it, that's just putting on the colour. However, I am still a beginner and any art program I can glean something from, is a plus for me.

Well I enjoyed the Challenge yesterday and actually liked the young Irish lady's portrait. Yes, I have just commented on a painting on Gallery as being possibly better than any of the contestants although I am very aware that the conditions definitely are not the same. I really would not be able to perform in front of the camera under those conditions so hats of to the contestants.
Your portrait thus far Marjorie, looks great and dare I say (tongue in cheek) that it is possibly better than any of the contestants could do! There, now enough sucking up Adele!!
