Hi, As the title says, I’ve got a birthday coming up and I really want to do some bigger pieces so need something to hold them.  I’m currently working on a table easel which can take up to 70cm, but I want more! I also never like to buy twice. To that end, can anyone point me in the direction of a solid recommendation. I paint acrylics on board or canvas.  I have looked around and some of the offerings on Amazon look the part, but I’m wary of cheap materials that won’t last. I’d much rather have someone with experience point me in the right direction rather possibly fake Amazon reviews. Cheers
If you’re really serious about your painting, then I would recommend an H-Frame studio easel. Buy a known brand, not anything that simply looks good from Amazon, but may warp over time. I’ve got the Windsor & Newton H-Frame easel, I’m not sure of the model name but you can’t go far wrong with this make. Mabef have quite a few on sale also, so I’d go for either of these. Jullian is another decent brand. Alternatively, there’s the Radial studio easel, not quite as sturdy for holding large canvases but very popular in art colleges, I used nothing else during my 5 years or so.

If I had the space I'd go for an H Frame, especially the ones which will tilt almost horizontal.
Thomas, was this of any help? It’s always appreciated when we receive a response !
Hi Alan, I was looking at an H frame.
I have a H frame. The only thing I'd warn you about is the height of them. My house is old and has tall ceilings but it could be a problem elsewhere. Most modern houses have 8 foot ceilings and some of these can reach nearly 12 foot fully extended.
I’ve got the W&N Shannon H-frame which fits fine in my studio - Worth checking though! W&N (and others) do make a selection of very large ‘studio’ models which are well above the standard ceiling height, and can retail at several thousand pounds…

Thank you for the recommendation, I'll have a look at the W&N ones.
