Hey everyone!  I am an amateur artist and counsellor looking to create a service especially for artists.  My idea is a bootcamp for artists who are struggling with creative block.  It would consist of 3 sessions in one day, with creative assignments in between.  Money would be returned if the creative block was not broken.  I was wondering if you thought this was an interesting idea?
This sort of thing would also work for musicians and authors, so don't just limit yourself to visual artists. Workshops are always fun (unless you're the person delivering the content - never again). However, there is a whole load of free stuff out there looking to address creative block so you'll need to make sure you're offering something unique to attract customers. I think your "money back" idea would be abused to the extent that you'd be operating at a loss.
I’m not particularly excited by the idea, I can’t see it working! But it could… Creative block as we call it can’t be turned on or off like a light switch, or even in a day, it can sometimes last for weeks  - there are many reasons it can happen, most artists encounter this at some stage and for many different reasons! I just can’t see three sessions in a workshop being the answer, unless it’s with a very exceptional artist and tutor who can impart their own enthusiasm etc. I can think of a few that would definitely help me: Ken Howard and Adibanji Alade to name just two, there are many similar. But you’re a counsellor not an exceptional artist.  Nothing wrong with giving it a go of course, but the money back aspect of it makes no business sense. Finally, creative block isn’t terminal, in my experience the only way is to concentrate on other things and put your brushes away - it always works for me!

Afraid I agree with both Alans - money back if no success is not a viable business proposition in the circumstances you're suggesting; aborted costs are never much fun, and if the costs are as high as they could be in this case, I don't see you lasting long. Boot-camp though - interesting; I think of myself, and how I might react.... I think that if I could be abstracted from my present domestic setting and voluntary job, and were allowed a period of complete peace in unfamiliar but pleasant surroundings, it might help quite a bit in itself, with or without counselling.   If the counselling offered as well were helpful - and in my case that would mean totally free of all woo and buzzwords, which bring out my irritable old man to a nicety - I can see that being useful.   If you do this though, I have one practical suggestion - ban all mobile phones and internet-connected devices, or at least insist they be turned on just once a day - and then turned off.
