Sylvia, I don’t have any experience of writing/publishing books etc but I’ve written a few story/article’s for a magazine. Like yourself it stemmed from rescuing, only it was ferrets. I belonged to the National Ferret Welfare Society who have a magazine/newsletter and wrote a few pieces for them. The magazine was for an inclusive age audience and included all manner of information for ferret keepers…..as there are similar Mags for dogs etc. I did it voluntarily, so didn’t have the problem of funding or marketing but I agree about contacting dog mags. It’s a great idea, and I wish you and Sam luck with getting your idea off the ground.
Fiona..so sorry I had to laugh…ferrets ?  What ever floats your boat.  Sorry I’m sure they are lovable unless you are a rabbit.  Thanks for your info will really have a think.   Do you still keep them ?
Yes sir…lol. I will decidedly look at magazines and on Johns suggestion also look at Amazon. Thank you John.  Alan I have or hope I have ,emailed you a copy bitty and disjointed.  It’s mainly to ask you what your opinion is. If you think it’s a pile of rubbish ,say so.  🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Ha ….e mail just bounced back Alan.  For some reason it doesn’t recognise you .  Please email me then I can try again…..later…
I took, as I tend to do, the easiest way.  I just wrote my book in Word, and published it via the Amazon Kindle app.  I'm good at editing, and weeded out various typos and grammatical slips - paying for that sort of help can be expensive - but I skimped on diagrams and photographs: i.e. they weren't professionally done. I have inquired about publishing a paper version, perhaps on-demand publishing is a way to go, but in order to do that the text has to be properly formatted, diagrams professionally done - and my Word version isn't really up to snuff.  A generous colleague who occasionally contributes here did print out a version for me, but a small error illustrated the fact that my own formatting was inadequate (I think the diagrams inserted with the aid of 'shapes' in Word presented problems).   I would be prepared to pay for professional attention - though am not wealthy; down to my last few thousand as we speak!  But I'm afraid I wouldn't really know where to go: I am by nature very easily dissuaded from taking on any major project - so I wouldn't take my experience as being any guide.  I should not, incidentally, repel any help - the book still sells on Amazon's Kindle store, though for not very much, and produces a trickle of rather insignificant royalties; but then, I always knew it wasn't going to make me rich .... it was just one of those things that had to be written because I felt that every how-to book I'd ever read simply failed to tell emerging artists what they most needed to know.  So in its own terms, it has worked - but I certainly wouldn't offer it as an example of how to proceed in your case.
Not everyone’s idea of ‘loveable’ I know but they are gorgeous. Yes, with one or two, you do have to stay away from the sharp end…..none of mine of course! Lol. I no longer have them now, old age caught up with them. I’ve rescued all manner of fur and feather over the years….lots of dogs as well, if I haven’t homed them myself I’ve found new homes for them. There is always something that needs a home! That’s what’s great about your idea and the work you’ve already done, raising funds and donating to a cause that you care about deeply.
Re raising money for causes…..I have a lot of frames and am thinking of filling them with doggy pics with all profit to a local dog sanctuary which cares for dogs which cannot be rehomed.
Such lovely help and comments all of you thanks.   Much as I love my furry friends I would still jib at ferrets …glad they had a happy home with you Fiona.  That’s a great idea Marjorie it will keep you busy for awhile but I’m sure they will find a market and your rescue centre will be benefited… keep cool every one.  I like sun and warm but not this…
Good luck, Sylvia……you can do this. I’ve nothing to offer, but I will say….don’t underestimate children. Take David Williams for instance, he has written many children’s books, my youngest granddaughter has read them all, and he’s touched on ‘sad’ themes too. Your illustrations will help if it’s going to be aimed at children, they’re delightful.
