Do any of you informed people know anything about www.artfinder. Just listened to someone talking on the radio about selling her work via this site. I notice they take 30% commission which seems very reasonable to me . Have anyone of you used this site and what sort of opinion do you have. Interested to know . Thanks
Yes Sylvia, as a member for a couple of years I know something about Artfinder, albeit I don't have anything on there for sale at present. If I'm not mistaken they take 33% + VAT which is around 40%, about par for the course I suppose. So, does your work sell on the site?, yes it does, although it can be a bit slow until you get a fair bit of work on there. The main market for my work anyway was the States, almost everything went over there, no issues as it's simple enough to fill out the customs form and drop it into the Post Office (if you have one of course). You pre-determine the postal costs in bands, so you have a price for UK, Europe and America etc, when you set up your account. I don't like this idea and I also found their website difficult to navigate through when adding new work, but I'm probably stupid. Payment is a month in arrears but they do give you a payment date online and they do pay bang on time into your PP account. As I recall, they ask that you submit a few pieces of artwork before accepting new clients. All in all a reasonable agency to deal with, they do have good market coverage and is one of the best at present. Let me know if you need more info.
I get their newsletter, and I've thought a couple of times that I'd probably give them a try if I had stuff to sell.
Artfinder does have a vast portfolio of artists' from around the globe, pretty well all styles are covered to cater for all art buyers. My work is mainly figurative and has sold reasonably well during the two years that I have been with them. However, I do know that this style of work won't stand a chance of reaching the top 40, but that isn't an issue for me.
