Hi, I am new to this forum and I have a question that might be useful to other artists too. I wonder if anyone can recommend an affordable art shipping company? I need to send a picture to Seattle in the USA with instructions to keep the parcel facing up a particular way. I am really shocked at how much it costs to have work shipped and paletized. I was quoted nearly £400 to have a 1m picture (which I have already wrapped and boxed) sent out to the USA. Is that really how much it costs, that's more than half of the cost of my picture! Up to now I have been lucky and customers have taken care of shipping, but I really need to find a reliable and affordable art shipping company. Thanks Lucy
I have always used the Royal Mail when sending my paintings to the States, very reasonably priced but of course there are size and weight restrictions so very large works won't be accepted. Just fill out the standard CN22 customs declaration and that's it. As for any company keeping your parcels facing a certain way up is not going to happen I'm afraid Lucy, impractical and impossible and this requirement shouldn't be necessary anyway.
Royal mail like many couriers won't accept picture glass so I always use 2mm acrylic which to be honest is first class, strong and very clear and you can't tell the difference. As for the other issue, good luck with that one Lucy.
