When I uploaded this painting, i said that i made the canvas myself but I didn't explain how. So here's how I made it.
Not a big deal though, I took a cardboard of medium size and cut a handmade paper of that size. I pasted it on the cardboard. Then I took a water soluble white wall primer(which i had in my home already) and applied 4-5 coats. then i slightly sanded after drying it. And a good canvas is ready. It is cheap:D. You can try it if you want.

It's actually not a canvas is it?, but it is an interesting way of making a support. I don't see me doing it myself as I prefer the grain of an actual canvas. Thanks for sharing it though, someone may be interested in giving it a shot, although I would be concerned about delamination in the future.

I have great sympathy with you - I realize that artists' materials are much harder to find in some countries than they are in ours, and salute your intelligence and craft in seeking to find cheaper alternatives to those which are commonly available here. Some of us, perhaps all of us, do not realize how lucky we are - I have seen your work on the Gallery and much admire it. I think that, if we can, more privileged artists should strive to help you.

Of course we are all spoilt for choice in the UK, and thanks for outlining your difficulties manashdas. The cotton shirt idea from Sylvia is one that I've heard before somewhere and worth a try. I haven't seen your work on the gallery, but the still life that you have posted to start off this topic is excellent.

Hello Manashdas. Your work above is wonderful, and has a texture that looks to me, of velvet.
They say necessity is the mother of invention, you have certainly proved that. Alan is right we are spoilt for choice, here in the UK.
You have made your idea for a support seem simple, so I'm going to give it a try. When we have deliveries to the farm some of the layered
pallets have a large mdf square between items, one metre square, I have put these to one side with the thought of using them for art, at some time.
I'll be using your method, but will use a spare bit of textured wall paper. Thanks for such a good and useful way of recycling.
